
Choose 2 Lose is a fun, friendly, community-wide wellness contest designed to provide motivation and support to those who are trying to lose weight and improve their overall health. Excess body fat contributes to a wide range of ailments and disease states, such as hypertension and type 2 diabetes, as well as back pain and fatigue. The obesity rate in the United States continues to climb, despite the billions of dollars spent each year on diet programs and products. Unfortunately, the culture that we live in promotes excessive calorie intake and it takes a concerted effort to make choices that lead to permanent weight loss.
The Program
The contest begins January 26, 2010 and runs for 10 consecutive weeks. Any type of company, organization or group can form a team. The only requirement is that there must be 4-6 members on each team. Large companies or groups can enter several teams. Each team needs to designate a Team Captain and companies or groups with multiple teams will need to designate a Program Administrator. The program has evolved into an entirely web based program where participants can interact and participate from anywhere, at anytime. Participants will receive support and information on a variety of Wellness topics.
Rules
Access to the program website will open up on January 18, 2010. Program Administrators will be sent the website link and further instructions on that date. Each participant will need to set-up a profile to the secure site where they will enter data and interact on a weekly basis. Weigh-ins will be done in a strictly confidential manner by each participant and entered online. Participants should use the same scale throughout the contest. Days of exercise will also be entered each week. Points will be awarded for days of exercise and percentage of weight loss. Winning teams and groups will be those with the most points earned through exercise days and the greatest percentage of weight loss. Prizes will be awarded to the top winning teams as well as individuals meeting the minimum wellness achievement of exercise and weight loss.
Results
The goal of the Choose 2 Lose contest is to instill sound weight loss guidelines, consistent workout patterns and confidence in all who participate. Even small amounts of weight loss often result in improved health. A 7% weight loss has been proven to lower high blood pressure, improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
