Welcome Dr. Susan Heasley, our new Family Practice Physician!

Hutch Clinic is pleased to announce that Dr. Susan Heasley will be joining our physician team and practicing out of our Cheney location. Dr. Heasley, a Kansas native with deep roots in Cheney, is a family physician who offers primary care to all ages. She specializes in family medicine and provides her patients with compassionate, comprehensive care. We are excited to welcome Dr. Heasley to the Hutchinson Clinic family!

Tell us a little about your background.

I was born and raised in Kansas and went to Wichita State University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I worked as a nurse for a number of years and decided that the field was moving in a direction that was different than my training, so I went back to get my master's degree and became a family nurse practitioner. I was actually in the first graduating class of nurse practitioners in the state of Kansas. It was then that I really began to evolve my beliefs about the way people should receive care and decided to take care of people the way I knew in my heart was right. In order to do so, I needed a medical degree. So, I went back to school and earned my degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine - Kansas City University. Initially, I thought I wanted to be a neurologist, but then learned that family medicine and caring for patients of all ages is what I really loved. I finished my residency in Rhode Island, practiced for several years in Missouri, and now I’m thrilled to be practicing in Hutchinson, close to my family.

What brought you to the Hutchinson area?

My husband and I moved back to be closer to family. My grandfather moved to Cheney when he retired, and I visited him there often. I have many wonderful childhood memories of going to parades and spending time at the family farm in Cheney. It was great fun and I still feel that strong connection to the community.

Why did you choose Hutch Clinic?

Hutchinson offered the opportunity to help shape a practice and work at a place that aligns with my philosophy of care. They have really helped me fit into the Hutchinson physician community, and many new team members have already reached out to me! There’s a true sense of team camaraderie.

What is your care philosophy?

Part of my philosophy is treating the whole person: body, mind and spirit. They are all interrelated. I also believe in a team approach. Not only do I think of clinical staff members, such as the nurse practitioner and medical assistant, but also view the patient as part of the team! We all have important parts to play and I’m looking forward to making these strong and fulfilling relationships. Lastly, I believe that people don’t care what you know, until they know that you care.

As a new physician at Hutch, what are you most excited about when joining the Hutchinson community?

I am excited about the opportunity to shape the practice to meet the unique needs of the community and do so alongside other caring and thoughtful individuals.
