Welcome Dr. Scott Akers, Hutch Clinic’s Newest Walk-In Care Physician!

Hutch Clinic is thrilled to announce Scott Akers, D.O. as the newest addition to our team. Dr. Akers joins our 2101 North Waldron location as a primary care physician with our Walk-In Clinic. He is a Kansas native and looks forward to providing thoughtful & compassionate care to our Hutchinson community. Please help us welcome Dr. Akers!

Can you tell us about your background and why you went into medicine?

I grew up on a farm in Western Kansas. My mom was a nurse and my grandfather was a family physician. I was intrigued by the stories they told me growing up. While in school I took anatomy and physiology courses that, along with my family’s history, led to the spark of wanting to practice medicine.

What’s your care philosophy?

I ask “How can I help you today?” and then I try to understand, from their perspective, what has brought them in that day. Because people usually come to a Walk-in Clinic for something really specific, and they’re often hoping for quick service, I focus on their immediate need so they can get the most value out of their visit.

Can you tell us more about what brought you to Hutch? What attracts you to Hutchinson, KS?

Hutchinson has a lot to be attracted to! I live in Goddard which is 40 miles south of Hutchinson. I was looking for something that was within driving distance so I could still be home at night with my family. I lived in Hutchinson for two years while getting my associate’s degree and am familiar with the area. I liked the culture at the Clinic and the city has good shopping and restaurants.

What role do you think Walk-in Care should play in the community? How does it differ from another setting?

Walk-in Care is a valuable resource for helping patients feel better and get back to their routine as quickly as possible. At a multi-specialty clinic like Hutch, it’s even more valuable because we see Walk-in Care as connected to our primary care providers, specialists and complementary to emergency care. That kind of approach isn’t possible with other locations that only do urgent care and it’s one of the main reasons I wanted to be a member the Hutch team.

What do you like to do outside of the Clinic?

I have a wife and two sons along with a dog. During my free time, I enjoy reading, scuba diving (especially in the Cayman Islands), and hiking in the mountains.
