It’s time celebrate another physician spotlight – Dr. Verlin Janzen!

A great leader and a compassionate physician, Dr. Janzen wears many hats at Hutch Clinic. He has been part of our Family Practice team for 25 years and has dutifully served as Medical Director of Medical Informatics and Population Health since 2017. His spotlight is well deserved. How long have you been with Hutch Clinic? 25 years

Hometown: Aurora, Nebraska

Why did you want to join the Hutch Clinic team? I wanted to join a multispecialty clinic for the aspect of collegiality and to better care for patients.

What does Hutch Clinic do better than anyone else? Provide comprehensive, cutting-edge medical care for all patients – even the most complicated – from primary care to specialty physicians.

What makes working at Hutch Clinic so special? The great group of hardworking and talented physicians AND staff!

First job? Roguing beans in 7th grade - how many know what that is?

First vacation? Our first as a family was a 12 day road trip to & from Myrtle Beach, NC to visit friends with our three kids who were ages 9 months to 4 years old. It was actually a blast!

First concert? Beach Boys

Where you met your partner? Through a friend, but the first time we met was while refereeing a basketball game.

What TV shows are you watching/loving? Anything outdoors related, Discovery Channel, etc.

What’s your favorite recipe to make at home right now? Smoked ribs on the Traeger

What hobby or hobbies are you pursuing? Woodworking, bass fishing

If you could live anywhere in the world (other than Hutchinson, of course), where would you live? Table Rock Lake

What’s your perfect day? Get up at 5 to 5:30 a.m., make a cup of coffee, watch the sunrise, spend 8 hours in my woodworking shop.

What’s your favorite book? Truman by David McCullough

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Mr. Cao in Hutchinson, Red Rock Canyon Grill in Wichita

Dogs or cats? Cats

Spring or fall? Spring, because it leads to Summer!

Sweet or salty? Both - they compliment each other

Football or basketball? Football

Coffee or tea? Tea
