Recruiting a Community of Caregivers

A note from our Interim CEO, Dr. Verlin Janzen

Healthcare staffing – and staffing in general – has been an increasingly popular topic of conversation nationally, and we’re glad to see that conversation reach our community. For 60 years, recruitment has been one of the most important things we do at Hutchinson Clinic. Afterall, we got our start in 1959 when five physicians saw the value of working together and then recruited two more physicians just a year later.

Our focus on recruiting hasn’t let up since, and we’re proud to now have 100+ physicians and APPs, 560+ team members, 35+ specialties and 14+ locations. This group – this community of caregivers – makes it possible for us to achieve our Vision of providing advanced, comprehensive care to Central Kansas.

In addition to being one of the most important things we do, recruitment is also one of the most difficult things we do. Because we’re not just looking for anyone with the right technical qualifications and experience. That’s just the baseline. What we’re really looking for is someone who wants to be a part of our community of caregivers and our Hutchinson community.

We want someone who wants to live here. We want someone who wants to grow their career here. We want someone who has a servant’s heart and wants to be part of something. The longer we do this, the more we realize that those people … people like you … are hard to find.

That’s why we’re so proud to work alongside you. That’s also why we recently revamped our HR team and have begun implementing enhanced recruitment processes.

We’re also proud that more than 20 of our physicians are Primary Care Providers delivering Family Practice, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN and Pediatrics, not to mention we’re the only provider in the region with physicians dedicated to Walk-in Care. As more insurance providers favor Value-based Care (VBC) contracts, our strong team of Primary Care Providers is acting as the connective tissue with our Specialists to ensure that patient care is coordinated and focused on securing low-cost, high-quality outcomes.

Our Specialists play an equally crucial role in the VBC environment as well. We’re lucky to continue finding these physicians with interest and experience in a specialty, who recognize the value of Primary Care and desire to practice as part of a collegial community of caregivers.

And that’s just our physicians. Surrounding them are the 560+ team members with the same mentality of delivering quality care by acting as a member of a team, adding the value that only each of you can add, and being passionate about our Hutch community.

So, you can see, our new HR team has its work cut out for them. They’re not just tasked with finding team members. They’re tasked with – and excited about – finding Hutchinson Clinic team members. If you are curious about the roles we’re looking to fill, check them out here.

Thank you for choosing Hutch Clinic. I’m proud to serve alongside you.
