Hutchinson Clinic Welcomes Dr. Khawla Abusamra to Neurology Team

Hutchinson Clinic is proud to welcome Dr. Khawla Abusamra, MBBS, to its Neurology Department. Dr. Abusamra began seeing patients on September 8, 2025, bringing advanced expertise in adult neurology and neuro-ophthalmology to the Hutchinson community.

Dr. Abusamra is a board-certified neurologist with specialized training in conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and optic pathways. Her clinical focus includes the diagnosis and treatment of headaches and migraines, stroke, multiple sclerosis and neuro-immunological disorders, epilepsy and seizures, movement and neuromuscular disorders, optic neuritis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and neuromyelitis optica.

Dr. Abusamra earned her medical degree with honors from the University of Jordan in Amman, where she graduated among the top of her class. She completed an ophthalmology residency at Jordan University Hospital, followed by a neurology residency at the University of Kentucky. She went on to complete a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Michigan State University and a uveitis and ocular immunology fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institute, giving her a unique depth of expertise across both neurology and ophthalmology.

She holds multiple board certifications and credentials, including certification by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, Diplomate status with the National Board of Medical Examiners, and certification from the International Council of Ophthalmology Boards in the United Kingdom.

Throughout her career, Dr. Abusamra has earned numerous honors, including being named Resident of the Month at the University of Kentucky Neurology Residency Program and receiving multiple awards for best case presentations. She is also a member of the American Neurologic Association and is the founder and former chair of the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation in Amman, Jordan.

Dr. Abusamra is known for her patient-centered approach and commitment to helping patients fully understand their conditions and treatment options. She prioritizes safety, communication, and individualized care, working closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan tailored to their needs.
